Belgrade, Serbia – Gallery Novoriznica Beograd is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition Flowers, a personal project by Marina Koldobska. The exhibition will run from September 15 to October 14, 2024. The vernissage will be held on September 14 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., where the artist will present her paintings and graphics.
In the era of concepts and digital technologies, Marina Koldobska offers a different path – an appeal to the beginnings, to eternal symbols and laconic means of expression. The exhibition should be viewed not only as a collection of pictorial images, but also as a bold manifesto calling for a rethinking of the role of beauty and simplicity in contemporary art.
The contrast between the black-red and blue-gold palettes creates a tension that unites the exhibition space. The black-red range, referring to blood, earth and passion, embodies the energy of life, its vitality and finitude. Blue and gold, traditionally present in icon painting and symbolizing the sky and eternity, creates a feeling of peace, tranquility and aspiration for the transcendental. Color schemes are not just a decorative element, but mediators that translate abstract ideas - life and death, earthly and heavenly - into the sensory experience of the viewer.
The laconicism and geometric clarity of the compositions create a feeling of strict orderliness, referring to Suprematism. At the same time, the play of textures, the roughness of the canvas and paper, the relief of the brushstrokes, enter into a dialogue with it, reminding us of the materiality of the world, its imperfection and variability. The emphasis on tactility and materiality of the work emphasizes the importance of bodily experience in the perception of art, contrasting it with the abstract and digital.
Marina Koldobskaya's works are not so much images of recognizable images as signs, formulas leading to the comprehension of "heavenly harmony". The interaction of the exhibition elements creates an atmosphere conducive to meditative contemplation, inviting the viewer to an internal dialogue and self-knowledge. In the digital age, when our attention is constantly scattered, art can bring us back to ourselves, help us slow down and realize our connection with the world. Marina Koldobskaya’s works at the Flowers exhibition offer the viewer such an opportunity – the opportunity to stop, look closely, listen to oneself and the surrounding space, and perhaps discover new or forgotten facets of the surrounding world.
